The free response section of the test consists of 8 essay questions. The first essay is the synthesis essay, in which you will need to write a persuasive argument using a variety of sources to illustrate and support this argument. The next 7 essays require analysis of rhetoric and style in selected prose passages. The 8 essays each count for a third of your grade on the free-response section, so you are encouraged to spend 95 minutes on each of them.
